Secure Your Commissioning Success: Start with a Strong System Definition
Failing to get your System Definition (SD) right from the start could put your commissioning activities at risk.
A solid SD forms the foundation of your project. Without it, you’ll struggle to demonstrate that your CSM-RA risk management process is properly bound to the scope. If there’s uncertainty about whether all potential hazards have been captured and mitigated, convincing System Review Panels (SRPs) and Assessment Bodies (AsBos) that it’s safe to proceed with your railway changes becomes incredibly difficult.
To ensure your SD sets your project up for success, it must include the content required by the CSM-RA Regulations and be developed in coordination with all key project functions—engineering, management, and sponsorship. Incorporating helpful visuals like System Context Diagrams and Track Map illustrations will help define your system’s boundaries.
Remember: your SD isn’t a one-and-done task—it needs to be regularly reviewed and updated to reflect any changes in scope.
