Engineering Safety Management

Our engineering safety management work is built around the standards your project will be assessed against — CENELEC EN 50126/8/9 in the UK and EU, and CMREA (CSA R114:22) in Canada — and the evidence regimes that follow them.

At High Speed Rail Solutions, our system safety engineering services adhere to the rigorous requirements of the CENELEC standards EN50126, EN50128, and EN50129 and the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM RA) Regulations / Canadian Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment for Railway Systems (CMREA).

We offer these specialized services to a diverse range of clients, ensuring the safe integration of their systems and projects into the existing railway network.

We've prepared the evidence packs that go to AsBos, ISAs, System Review Panels and National Safety Authorities — including the ORR (UK) and Transport Canada — and helped clients secure Declarations of Control of Risk and Authorisations for Placing into Service on live programmes.

Our comprehensive range of system safety engineering services includes:

  • System Definition Development

Develope clear and comprehensive system definitions that form the basis for safety assessments and analyses. We create visual representations of the system context, enabling a better understanding of safety interfaces and dependencies.

  • Significance Assessments

Conduct thorough assessments of railway projects and their stage works to determine the significance of risks and therefore determine the requirements for whether independent Assessment Bodies or Independent Safety Assessors are to be appointed.

  • Planning of Safety Assurance Activities

We develop tailored safety assurance plans that outline the necessary safety activities to be conducted throughout the project lifecycle. Our programmes take account of the required timescales of all internal and external assessment and approval bodies/panels.

  • Hazard Management

Facilitate hazard identification (HAZID) and hazard and operability (HAZOP) to identify potential risks and ensure their proper management. Rigorously manage the resultant Hazard Record to ensure all hazardous events and precursors are captured along with the resultant safety requirements and compliance evidence.

  • Safety Case Development

Develop robust safety cases that provide a clear and compelling argument for the safety of the system based on comprehensive analyses and assessments. Our safety cases comply with the requirements of EN50129 and address the pillars of Quality Management, Safety Management, and the Technical Safety of the system.

  • Safety Requirement Development and Closure

Assist in the development of clear and concise safety requirements that guide the design and implementation of the system. Prepare comprehensive justifications that demonstrate compliance with these safety requirements and the applicable safety standards and regulations.
