National Road Fleet Transition

Scope

The National Road Fleet Transition Project, in collaboration with Network Rail, focused on transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs) for a major road fleet. HSRS was responsible for designing and installing EV charging infrastructure across multiple Network Rail depots. Our tasks included document creation and control, attending Hazard Identification (HAZID) sessions, and producing the System Safety Plan (SSP) and Safety Justification Report (SJR). The project adhered to NR project standards and Common Safety Method (CSM) standards, ensuring compliance and safety throughout the process. Despite focusing on EV charger installation rather than rail-specific work, all deliverables were successfully completed, with some hazards remaining open at the project's conclusion.

Delivery Challenges

  • Ensuring safety across multiple locations with diverse stakeholders.
  • Coordinating the installation of EV chargers at Network Rail depots.
  • Compiling and managing information from HAZID sessions.
  • Maintaining compliance with NR project standards and CSM standards.

Benefits Delivered

As part of our activities, we have brought a number of benefits to the project:

  • Successful installation of EV charging infrastructure for fleet electrification.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement, addressing diverse concerns and requirements.
  • Comprehensive safety management through HAZID workshops and hazard record maintenance.
  • Completion of all project deliverables, demonstrating robust project management.
